CIVIC PROFILE VERIFICATION FOR GITCOIN PASSPORT USERS
What is Civic Pass?
Civic Pass is a non-transferable token that gives you access to dApps and services by attesting that you’ve completed Proof of Personhood check, such as a CAPTCHA or video selfie. Civic Pass is both on-chain and private for users.
Why should I get verified?
As the first set of biometric stamps available on Gitcoin, verified Civic Passes are some of the highest-scoring credentials available on the Passport. Completing more verifications will strengthen your Gitcoin Passport score and online reputation.
Does verification cost anything?
There are two fees associated with each issuance of a Civic Pass:
1) Blockchain transaction fees are defined by the network and may also vary with network congestion.
2) The cost of per issuance of each Civic Pass:
- CAPTCHA $0.05
- Liveness $0.15
- Uniqueness $0.30
Do Civic Passes expire?
Your CAPTCHA Pass and Liveness Pass have a validity of 30 days. As the first available biometric stamps on Gitcoin Passport, Civic Passes serve as a powerful Proof of Personhood, allowing you to establish your online reputation quickly and securely. After 30 days, you will be prompted to re-verify your passes and pay the associated blockchain transaction fees and verification fees in order to reissue them in your Gitcoin Passport.
Your Uniqueness Pass expires after 90 days.
When my Civic Passes expire, will it impact my Gitcoin Passport score?
When your Civic Passes expire, you will lose the scores associated with those stamps. Simply re-verify your Civic Passes (and pay the associated blockchain transaction fees and verification fees) in order to reissue them in your Gitcoin Passport.
Where can I use Civic Pass?
Civic Pass stamps in your Gitcoin Passport are one of many ways to build a digital identity and reputation. The more you verify your identity, the more opportunities you will have to vote and participate across web3.
Use your Passport to unlock access to partners including Gitcoin Grants, Link3, Linea, and more.
Why do I have to pay verification fees?
Early users benefitted from a limited-time promotion to receive Civic Pass verifications at no cost. The promotion is now over and verification fees have been implemented for all transactions.
Why am I receiving an error that says my Civic Pass is expired?
Civic CAPTCHA Pass and Civic Liveness Pass expire after 30 days. Follow the prompts onscreen to refresh your Civic Pass and receive your Gitcoin Passport stamps. Civic Uniqueness Pass expires after 90 days.
Why am I getting a message that says: “Verification Failed. There was an error verifying your stamp. Please try again.”?
You may be using Civic Pass on a chain that is unsupported. Please make sure that you are getting your stamps only via Gitcoin Passport.
Why am I getting a message that says: “Transaction couldn’t be sent.”?
All transactions require fees. Consider adding more funds or switching to another supported chain, which also may have lower fees.
Why am I stuck on the blockchain confirmation screen?
If you are stuck on the confirmation screen or seeing “Transaction not confirmed,” the blockchain may be experiencing high volume and/or temporarily degraded service.
Additional steps for Metamask wallet users:
- Check for pending transactions in the Activity tab of your wallet.
- Speed up your transaction. See instructions here.
- Cancel your transaction and try again.
Why am I getting a message that says: “Your Civic Pass request has been rejected.”?
You are seeing this message because your IP appears to be making use of a VPN or because your IP seems to be from one of the following unsupported countries: Belarus, China, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Russia, Syria, South Sudan, and Sudan.
If you are not in an unsupported country and still have trouble getting a Civic CAPTCHA Pass, wait a few hours, clear your cache, and retry in a new browser.
If the issue persists, please open a support ticket in Discord.
Why am I getting a message that says: “Uniqueness – Duplicate found.”?
Each user can have only one Uniqueness Pass per chain. If you attempt to get another pass, you will see this error.
If you do not have other Uniqueness Passes issued or would like to switch wallets, you may complete a burn request. From there, select the wallet from which you would like your pass burned. Once your Uniqueness Pass has been burned, you will need to wait seven (7) days before you can request a new Uniqueness Pass.
I got my Civic Passes issued. Why didn't I get points for them?
Civic Passes that are issued on a test network like Sepolia and Goerli, are for testing purposes only. Only Civic Passes issued on mainnets can be used to connect to dApp or DEX websites like Gitcoin and civic.me. Please make sure that your wallet provider is set to mainnet then go through the process of getting your Civic Passes issued on mainnet.
If you have a Civic Uniqueness Pass issued on testnet, you'll need to first revoke that one. During this 7-day period, you won't be able to use your revoked Civic Uniqueness Pass and you won't be able to get a new one issued. When you revoke a Civic Pass, you can't have another issued to that same wallet address. You can get another one issued to a different wallet address after the 7-day waiting period. Once the process to revoke your Civic Pass has begun, it cannot be altered or halted in any way.
